VASHKA!
Vashka is an athletic Russian Arabian whose name means "Prince of Kings." Once, an acupuncturist who met him said that he felt such a dignified presence about Vashka that the man felt as if he should salute the horse!
Vashka loves to keep everything and everyone in order. However, he also adores games -- and of course treats. The Minty Rose Brownie is currently his favorite.
Vashka is an accomplished dressage horse as well as a very competitive trail horse who loves to travel in a a wide-open, "let's-go-like-the- wind" canter. Diagnosed as Insulin Resistant two years ago, he has since proved to many cynics that Insulin Resistance can be very successfully managed through a balanced and low sugar/low carbohydrate nutritional program.
Vashka is The Boss of Everything at Skode's.
SUNNY!
Sunny is a beautiful and big-hearted Basque Arabian. To say he is kind and loving is an understatement. He is a horse who avoids tree branches so that the human riding him will not get hurt! He loves to hug.
Before he met Skode, Sunny was an award-winning Hunter Jumper who suffered from stress, mysterious lameness issues and excessive use of NSAIDS like Bute. He has since been diagnosed with Cushings and Severe Insulin Resistance.
Pergolide for the Cushings, anti-inflammatories for the healing of his stomach, and of course a low-sugar/low carbohydrate lifestyle, allow Sunny the uninhibited fun of life on the ranch and pleasure rides through the mountains of Southern Oregon.
Sunny's favorite treat is currently Sunny's Smile because of the juicy apple slices and Chamomile Flower Buds.
Sunny is designated Care Taker and Head Worrier of Everyone at Skode's.

ALF!
Alf is a big bay Percheron Sport Horse whose real name is “Mithrandir’s Magik.” He has a commanding presence reminiscent of the old Baroque-type horses of Europe, and he’s certainly the Boss around his home farm in Chittenango, N.Y.
He is called ALF: Alien Life Form, because there has never been (and it’s unlikely that this planet will ever see) another horse like him. Alf is very intelligent, athletic, and kind, with a steady, fearless personality. He is an accomplished show horse in both English and Western style, and is a marvelous trail horse and driving horse as well. He is a horse that is totally willing to give anything a try, and give it one hundred percent. He has kicked around bareback on dirt roads and farm fields, and also performed high level dressage moves in the ring. His versatility is astounding.
In his new-found retirement, Alf likes to hang out in the sun with his special person and eat delicious low-carb treats made just for him from Skode’s mixes. He’s a bit spoiled, but he has certainly earned it. He is also becoming the local “Poster Child” for recovering Insulin Resistance, inspiring other horse owners to give the equine low-carb lifestyle a try.
