Treats that Meet Your Needs
Each time Skode's invents a treat, we do so to meet a need. Our Herbal Terrain Hay Mixers, for example, were first designed to alleviate the boredom our horses were experiencing with their hay -- which we buy by the ton and in only one or two types a year.
To help us create a more interesting and natural foraging experience, Australian herbalist Catherine Bird formulated four herbal blends based on the herbal terrain a wild horse actually travels. Since then, we have found our horses to be much more excited about eating their hay, and we're happy, too: there is a lot less hay waste. The needs of horse owners are important. Skode's works hard to meet them.
To hide perglolide and other meds: May we suggest our bake-at-home cookie mixes, of which you can easily control the "chewiness factor" through baking temperature and amount of water added.
To Absorb APF: Skode's pre-baked Minty Rose Brownies hold 3-4 mls of APF per brownie!
To alleviate boredom: Our Herbal Terrain Hay Mixers are wonderful diversions for horses, as the blends give horses the experience of foraging through hay rations for their herbs -- just like in Nature. Each blend emulates the terrain on which the specific herbs were grown (Meadow, Ocean/Coastal, Desert/Stony and Woods). These herbs are aromatic, tactile, delicious -- and nutritious! Many customer have found that their horses are taking much more interest in their hay and have fewer bad habits in general.
Treats for horses with bad teeth: Our bake-at-home mixes can be baked as soft as you like, with unused portions kept in the fridge or freezer.
Treats for Clicker Training: Skode's six different Specialty trail mixes are wonderful clicker training treats, as they can be grabbed by the handful and easily put in a pants or breech pocket, then divvied out perfectly.
Treats to enhance palatability of feed and supplement rations: Cookie crumbles and brownie bits are made from the same 100 percent natural and organic whole food recipes as the cookies and brownies -- but in smaller pieces and sometimes crumbles. Simply mix into feed rations to create a very tasty meal and to mask the taste of any unsavory supplements!
Our organic teas are also excellent for this purpose as they saturate hay pellets and beat pulp as well as supplements, giving horses a refreshing change both in terms of smell as well as taste. If it is your first time trying tea for your horse, we highly recommend Rosehip or Peppermint. Be sure to keep some for yourself, too!
To specifically mellow the peppery taste of Chastree Berry (Vitex), Skode's and certified herbalist Catherine Bird have worked in conjunction to bring you our new Chastree Berry Tea Enhancers. Made from certified organic herbs, we guarantee your horse will love this tea! Available in 2 week and 1-month packs.
"We have to order more brownie mix today. Agnes says that she can have two brownies everyday, we say she only gets one with APF! " -- Dustin Stobel and Jennifer Strobel
"I like the mixes because I always have something on hand to bake up fresh for my horses. They love the fact that I can experiment with the crusty to soft and chewy ratio in my kitchen. I also need the value that buying mixes provides, as I have 5 (some IR ) geldings to pamper." -- Paula V.
Paula's horses eagerly devouring their bake-at-home cookies:

"Trojan really looks forward to me sprinkling the herb mixtures on his hay and I actually think the nights he has the herbs -- he doesn't eat his poop."
