Hi Everyone,

The theme of this newsletter is "Support."

Support of our horses. Support of ourselves. Support of others.  Support of your horse's COOKIE HABIT! (I couldn't resist that last one).

I don't know about you, but in these fast-changing times I am learning to do things and "be" in certain ways I never imagined.
SUPPORT YOUR HORSE with "Magnesium Support"

It is with great pleasure that I announce a new support product formed in conjunction between Skode's Horse Treats Inc. and certified herbalist Catherine Bird, author of A Healthy Horse the Natural Way.

Simply, this is a combination of pure Magnesium citrate and certified organic Chamomile Flower Powder.  Magnesium is known to affect insulin secretion as well as action, giving it a vital role in the stabilization of glucose. Some signs of magnesium deficiency can include: Abnormal fat deposits (crestiness), muscle stiffness and gait abnormalities. Chamomile flowers may help stop spasms in the smooth muscle lining of the stomach and intestines, as they contain constituents that are anti-bacterial, anti-viral and anti-parasitic.

This unique product is designed to meet the needs of horses who need additional magnesium supplementation to balance their bodies and their nutritional programs. It contains a highly assimilate form of magnesium. It does not contain any fillers or additives of any kind. It has been carefully balanced to help horses who may be deficient in magnesium, to maintain a healthy level of the mineral - both through the mineral itself as well as the very gentle and soothing herb of Chamomile. Suggested serving size is 1 tablespoon, which contains 400 mg of elemental Magnesium.

"Magnesium Support" has in our anecdotal experience, appeared to help to regulate bowls in horses prone to colic. (Hard stools became softer without any tummy upsets or runny stools). However please know that the use of the herb of Chamomile for the prevention or cure of any disease has not been regulated by the FDA. We therefore make no claims to this effect.

*Special Note: It is just as important to feed certain minerals in correct proportions as it is to provide the minerals themselves.  Please visit the Yahoo Cushings and Insulin Resistance Group at Yahoo if you have questions about how to offer such a balanced nutritional program.

with people who can be in the present moment with you and your horse...

I know of no higher accolade to give someone than to say that that person helped to save my horse's life. Amanda Oliver is one of those people and I will be forever grateful to her. Interestingly, I have never met her and neither has my horse Vashka! And yet her intent to help us changed everything.

It was a Saturday night and Vashka had been colicking for two days. The vet had come and gone, leaving me with the instructions to call him if Vashka did not get better within a day or two. Vashka was up and down a lot and while not as bad as as before the vet appeared, he was in obvious discomfort.  In tears, I called Cindy Daigre of Ferrell Hollow Farms in Tennessee. Cindy is a woman I know and trust, a woman with many years of experience with horses. Cindy immediately connected me to Amanda Oliver, animal communicator, energy worker and T-touch practioner.

Amanda Oliver asked my permission to connect with Vashka and then told me quite simply that she would be "tuning in throughout the night."

I had no idea what that meant, nor did I have any expectations of how Oliver could help us. I just knew that as soon as I hung up the phone, I felt incredibly supported and therefore calmer.

At the time I lived in a cottage overlooking Vashka's property and I could see him from my bedroom window. I sat in front of that window and watched my horse grow increasingly relaxed and more eager to nibble on his hay -- something he hadn't wanted to do for two days. Within four to five hours, Vashka seemed pain-free. These results lasted over the next few days.

So it is with great delight that I introduce to you through a Question and Answer interview that I recently conducted, Amanda Oliver, a woman I hope you will reach out to should you or your horse need assistance.

SKODE:

You have a Bachelors of Science in Education and a Master's in Psychology. How does this higher education help you help horse owner's and their horses?

Amanda Oliver:

The training I received with my BS degree honed my teaching skills with people...I just translate that to the animals. My MA in psychology helps with analyzing relationships of animal to animal as well as the person's relationship with her animal --  I am often working with their person as well. This was not my intent when I first started this. However I learn everyday how interconnected our animals are with us -- about how the two are inseparable.

SKODE:

You sometimes mention "releasing blocked energy." What do you mean by this?

Amanda Oliver:

As I run my hands in the energy field of an animal or on his body I can feel heat, cold, tenseness, etc. If the energy is flowing evenly and smoothly throughout the body, the overall temperature will be relatively constant. Exactly how I do that I do not know -- it seems that I am used as a conduit from a higher source. I ask for direction and then allow the energy to lead me.

SKODE:

What are your expectations when you go into session with a client?

AMANDA OLIVER:

I never go into a session with expectations. I go into a session with the intent to assist the animal -- meeting the animal at the place the animal is in. Each session is different and each animal is different.

SKODE:

What do you love best about working with energy and horses?

AMANDA OLIVER:

This question brings tears to my eyes. Horses are such magnificent creatures. It is an honor when one accepts my work and it is a bonus to see them relax and to respond. I really can not say exactly what the energy work is like for me. It just feels a part of me and I feel I am where I am supposed to be, doing what I am supposed to be doing.

SUPPORT YOURSELF...
SUPPORT YOURSELF and your horse ...

I am very happy to be able to share with you a tip that may very well save you hundreds if not thousands of dollars, allowing you to support your horse as well as yourself!

For several years now, I have forgone the purchase of liquid Chastreeberry (Vitex) because I could not afford the two brands currently being made in England and sold in America. The shipping costs incurred in having the product shipped overseas and then to the consumer, were simply beyond my means. Reluctantly, I gave it up.

Since then, I have tried many times to feed the powdered herb, but my horse, Vashka, could not tolerate it. (It gave him severe flatulence). During a consultation with equine veterinarian and nutritionist Dr. Eleanor Kellon, I learned that sometimes horses with sensitive digestive systems react that way to the dry herb. I tried making tinctures and extracts and even teas. But I couldn't find a way to get the herb to actually dissolve. Two years later a friend gave me a recipe to turn a natural wormer that she uses into a liquid extract. It was extremely palatable and effective and my horses loved it.

So tried the same recipe with the Chastreeberry, an herb famous for helping to reduce Cortisol levels as well as supporting the pituitary gland -- incredibly important functions in middle aged to senior aged horses with metabolic issues.  The results have been terrific. No stomach upsets! Just the wonderful power of the Chastreeberry in a liquid form that is easily digested and assimilated into the horse's bloodstream. The liquid is made with specific proportions of organic whole food of apple cider vinegar and purified Spring Water.

Here is the recipe:

2 gallons purified Spring Water
1 gallon organic Apple Cider Vinegar
1 pound organic Chastreeberry powder

You can buy the Apple Cider Vinegar in a health food store and the organic Chastreeberry powder at
www.mountainroseherbs.com. I caution you not to skimp with non-organic ingredients. There IS a difference.

Mix ingredients in an insulated cooler, preferably with a spout at the bottom. I found one made by Rubbermaid that I absolutely adore (though it is a ghastly orange color).

Allow to sit for two days.

A sludge-like sediment will want to form at the bottom of the container. Simply stir every few days. The good news is that the apple cider vinegar will help to preserve the formula.

I feed about 1/2 cup a day to Vashka, who is Insulin Resistant but does not have Cushings. Please note that if your horse has Cushings, this recipe is not meant to treat the disease so I can not give you any advice as to the amount that you should feed. Please be sure to support your Cushings horse with a professional veterinarian or herbal consultation. My two highest recommendations are Dr. Eleanor Kellon DVM and Catherine Bird, certified herbalist.
